NATURE OF JOB:
Under limited supervision, provides technical support requiring technical and
aesthetic judgment for performance events. The principal emphasis is the
setup, operation, monitoring and adjustment of sound and lighting systems
during live performances.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Depending on unit assignment, the following are typical examples of
work:
* Sets up and connects audio systems having multiple inputs, effects and
outputs;
* Programs and operates lighting and audio control consoles;
* Monitors and adjusts audio levels during live presentations;
* Monitors and adjusts lighting
scene changes during live performances;
* Supervises students and professional union crew workers;
* Sets up and connects computers to video/data projectors;
* Trains and orients student theater groups in the safe and proper use of rigging,
lighting and sound equipment;
* Provides backup for Performance Events Technician I;
* Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES:
Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED with a
vocational/technical specialization in theater technology or the completion
of a USITT certificate training program in theater technology and five years
of progressively responsible experience in theater staging and lighting, or an
Associate's degree or two years of college study in theater technology and
two years of experience in the operation of a professional theater venue, or
two years of experience as Performance Events Technician I. Requires the
ability to follow oral and written instructions and read floor plans and
lighting diagrams; basic computer literacy and knowledge of computing
hardware connections; basic lighting design knowledge; the ability to solve
problems under time constraints and the ability to work independently. Must
be able to communicate effectively with people having varied levels of
technical knowledge and interact well with people of all ages and diverse
backgrounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift and move, with or without assistance, set pieces, rigging and
audio equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to accurately discern
colors and the pitch, tone and volume of sound.
