FLSA Status: Nonexempt Revised July 1, 1999 NATURE OF JOB: Under general supervision, performs a variety of microcomputing support duties. The principal emphasis is on applying advanced technical skills and knowledge to departmental microcomputing functions; independent judgment is required in the application and development of microcomputing procedures. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Depending on divisional assignment, the following are typical examples of work : * Troubleshoots and repairs difficult computing hardware and software problems; * Installs, maintains and repairs microcomputers and computer-related equipment; * Performs advanced software maintenance; * Evaluates equipment performance and recommends changes and upgrades; * Maintains inventory of computer equipment and software; * Supervises student employees; * Provides technical support and informal point-of-use training to departmental personnel; * Serves as liaison with service contractors; * Coordinates services and opertions in departmental microcomputing site; * Assists microcomputing site users with complex software applications and computer operations; * Interprets and executes University and departmental policies and procedures; * Maintains documentation and departmental records; * Performs other related duties as assigned. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES: Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED with specialized computer training and two years of relevant microcomputing experience, or two years of college course work in computer-related field, or a minimum of two years as a Microcomputing Specialist I. Requires comprehensive knowledge of networking software and popular software packages; advanced microcomputing skills developed through a variety of technology applications; ability to troubleshoot networking, software and hardware problems; ability to install, maintain and repair a wide variety of microcomputers and computer-related equipment; ability to solve problems under time constraints; ability to transfer technology concepts across applications; ability to work independently with little supervision; organizational skills; and ability to communicate technical information to people with various levels of computer expertise and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. Experience supervising student employees preferred. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift and move, with or without assistance, computer equipment weighing up to 50 pounds may be required in certain positions.
