NATURE OF JOB:
Under general supervision, provides technical support requiring technical and
aesthetic judgment for performance events. The principal emphasis is the assessment,
negotiation and coordination of technical needs and requirements for mounting
a variety of performance events.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Depending on unit assignment, the following are typical examples of
work:
* Completes a variety of setup and staging tasks including rigging and fly
rail systems, special effects devices and dance floors;
* Prepares and installs lighting
effects devices such as gels and gobos;
* Hangs, aims and focuses lights
according to a prepared lighting design;
* Places and connects sound
equipment such as monitor and fill speakers;
* Operates specific pieces of
equipment such as follow spots and stage travelers during productions;
* Performs other related duties
as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES:
Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED with a
vocational/technical specialization in theater technology or the completion
of a USITT certificate training program in theater technology and one year of
experience in theater staging and lighting setup. Requires the ability to
follow oral and written instructions and communicate and interact well with people
of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift and move, with or without assistance, set pieces, rigging and
audio equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to accurately discern
colors and the pitch, tone and volume of sound.
