FLSA Status: Nonexempt Revised July 1, 1999 NATURE OF JOB: Under general supervision, performs a variety of microcomputing support duties. The principal emphasis is on applying basic technical skills and knowledge to support departmental microcomputing functions; independent judgment is required in the application and development of microcomputing procedures. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Depending on divisional assignment, the following are typical examples of work : * Troubleshoots and repairs computing hardware and software problems; * Installs, maintains and repairs microcomputers and computer-related equipment; * Performs basic software maintenance; * Maintains inventory of computer equipment and software; * Supervises student employees; * Provides technical support and informal point-of-use training to departmental personnel; * Serves as liaison with service contractors; * Assists with departmental microcomputing site services and operations; * Assists microcomputing site users with software applications and computer operations; * Interprets and executes University and departmental policies and procedures; * Maintains documentation and departmental records; * Performs other related duties as assigned. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES: Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED with specialized computer training. Requires comprehensive knowledge of networking software and popular software packages; strong microcomputing skills developed through a variety of technology applications; ability to troubleshoot networking, software and hardware problems; ability to install, maintain and repair a wide variety of microcomputers and computer-related equipment; ability to solve problems under time constraints; ability to transfer technology concepts across applications; ability to work independently; organizational skills; and ability to communicate technical information to people with various levels of computer expertise and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. Experience supervising student employees preferred. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift and move, with or without assistance, computer equipment weighing up to 50 pounds may be required in certain positions.
