FLSA Status: Nonexempt Revised July 1, 1999 NATURE OF JOB: Under general supervision, coordinates the care and organization of costumes for the Professional Theatre Training Program (PTTP). The principal emphasis is on assigning, maintaining and assisting in the preparation of costumes for theatrical production. Requires independent judgment and the ability to resolve nonroutine problems as well as interpret policy. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Depending on unit assignment, the following are typical examples of work: * Coordinates the care, management and organization of finished costumes during dress rehearsals and performances; * Establishes quick-change procedures for performances; * Supervises and organizes wardrobe crew during dress rehearsals and performances; * Creates worksheets for dressing lists, show notes, and costume checks; * Assists the PTTP Costume Designer in craft work, makeup, wig and facial hair preparation; * Maintains dressing room, wig room, costume storage and laundry areas; * Coordinates strike of all costume pieces upon show completion; * Purchases items necessary for the maintenance and upkeep of shoes and wardrobe; * Purchases costume and craft items as specified by PTTP Costume Designer; * Performs other related duties as assigned. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES: Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED with one year of experience working in a costume shop of a professional theatre. Additional related education may be substituted for required experience. Fashion or theatre degree and knowledge of costume history preferred. Requires excellent organizational and scheduling skills; ability to maintain databases and create spreadsheets and documents; demonstrated ability to use intermediate word processing techniques; ability to operate industrial sewing equipment, sew and craft costume pieces, follow written and verbal instructions, and communicate effectively and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
