SENIOR OFFSET PRESS OPERATOR (T5) 
FLSA Status: Nonexempt

NATURE OF JOB:
Under general supervision, performs skilled technical work in large offset press operation and platemaking. Provides guidance and training to duplicator and press operators. The principal emphasis is on the production of high-quality copies, including, but not limited to, multicolor process work. Performs routine maintenance, in-house mechanical repairs and adjustments to the press equipment. 

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Depending on the divisional assignment, the following are typical examples of work: 

* Trains and provides guidance to personnel; 
* Makes plates for reproduction purposes using available metal and paper lithographic equipment as needed; 
* Chemically prepares plates and presses; 
* Makes necessary sizing adjustments and determines grain flow of paper stock for bindery purposes; 
* Secures proof copy and make necessary adjustments for clarity of prints’ copies; prints copies; 
* Produces duo-tone and multicolor process copies; 
* Removes, cleans and stores plates upon completion of job as necessary; 
* Keeps accurate records of work run, time amount of run, etc.; prepares required reports; 
* Reviews and approves quality of work; 
* Performs other related duties as assigned. 
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURES: Occasionally required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials. 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES:
Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED with four years' experience in offset press operations and platemaking procedures. Requires technical judgment; mechanical aptitude; familiarity with related chemicals, ink, paper stock and other tools of the trade; basic math skills; ability to work independently, train staff, follow written and oral instructions; and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires the ability to lift, with or without assistance, up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time. Requires the ability to accurately discern colors and troubleshoot related problems.
