ELECTRICAL SERVICES  SHOP COORDINATOR (T5)
FLSA Status: Nonexempt

NATURE OF JOB:
Under general supervision, assists in the administrative and field support activities of the department which includes the repair, preventive maintenance, installation and service of the University's electrical, fire alarm and other similar systems. The principal emphasis is on maintaining legally required paper and computerized records in accordance with state Fire and Electrical Codes, requirements of  The National Fire Protection Association and City of Newark and on coordinating daily the unit's administration functions of the Facilities Management work order and service slip system and timekeeping. Under supervisor's direction, interacts with vendors and services contractors. Requires independent judgment in the application of established policies and procedures. 

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Depending on unit assignment, the following are typical

* Maintains shop tool and material inventory; administers tool checkout system; arranges for repair and/or replacement; provides shop security; purchases, maintains and arranges testing of personal safety equipment including medium voltage "Hot Work" equipment;
* Coordinates service slips and time records;
* Maintains paper files;
* Performs extensive computer related activities including, but not limited to, record keeping, file maintenance, establishment of new files, spreadsheets, form development and limited graphics; 
* Interacts with other trade shops in coordination of work assignments;
* Investigates and reports on a variety of projects as assigned;
* Requisitions supplies and materials to facilitate emergency repairs; researches and locates hard to find replacement parts and other unique materials; 
* Confers with supervisor on all matters regarding the operation of the unit including work schedules and timetables and relays information to trades persons; 
* Acts as liaison to vendors and service contractors as directed; 
* Maintains shop, office and storage areas in a clean and orderly manner to comply with safety policy; 
* Provides job-specific materials in support of field personnel; 
* Identifies emergencies and follows through with appropriate support action;
* Performs other related duties as assigned. 

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS/OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURES:
The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES:
Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED with course work in the electrical trades and two years of practical experience in the electrical industry in field support services in material handling, purchasing, warehouse services, supply sales, and/or inventory control. Requires demonstrated ability to use intermediate techniques in spreadsheet, database, and word processing software; ability to work in a fast paced work environment with changing priorities; interpersonal skills; and the ability to communicate effectively and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
With or without assistance, must be able to routinely lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Requires the ability to visually color code wire, size conduit and troubleshoot related problems. Limited overtime may be required.
