FLSA Status: Nonexempt Revised July 1, 1999 NATURE OF JOB: Under general supervision, operates administrative, academic and instructional mainframe computers and associated peripherals running under various operating systems. The principal emphasis is on operating computers and peripherals within established guidelines, monitoring all systems including environmental variables and reporting the nature of errors or problems. Independent judgment is required. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Depending on divisional assignment, the following are typical examples of work : * Monitors operation of multiple systems and reports any errors or atypical responses; * Runs, monitors and verifies correct completion of production jobs run in batch mode; * Operates peripheral equipment such as impact printer, laser printer, scanner, thermo-bond and burster; * Monitors machine room environmental systems and reports errors; * Performs other related duties as assigned. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES: Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Six months' experience operating IBM and/or Sun mainframes using OS390 or Unix operating system or 12 to 18 months of experience running similar mainframes using other operating systems is preferred. Requires knowledge of basic operator commands and experience using a personal computer with Windows environment operating systems; general mechanical aptitude; and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires the ability to lift and move, with or without assistance, computer equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds, dexterity to set up, operate and troubleshoot computers and associated peripherals and ability to accurately align material for printing jobs.
