FLSA Status: Nonexempt Revised July 1, 1999 NATURE OF JOB: Under general supervision, performs skilled technical work in the operation of high-speed digital computerized publishing system. May perform minor mechanical repairs and routine maintenance and adjustments to publishing system. The principal emphasis is on the reproduction of high quality documents at established volume standards to ensure timely delivery. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Depending on assignment, the following are typical examples of work: * Operates high-speed digital black-and-white and color computerized publishing systems for reproduction of documents that may be confidential in nature; includes proofing, merging, cut/paste, light composing and photographic reproduction; * Programs system for exposure, enlargement, reduction and size to ensure clarity and resolution of image; * Makes necessary sizing adjustments and may determine grain flow of paper stock for bindery purposes; * Cleans and maintains system; * Performs minor repairs and adjustments; * Trains and provides guidance to personnel; * Maintains records on publishing system; * Orders supplies and maintains inventory; * Performs other related duties as assigned. OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURES: Occasionally required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES: Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED with computerized publishing system certification and six months' experience with high-speed digital computerized publishing system. Requires knowledge of printing techniques; technical and mechanical aptitude; ability to create and provide visual materials, train others and follow written and oral instructions; and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires the ability to lift, with or without assistance, up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.
