FLSA Status: Nonexempt Revised July 1, 1999 NATURE OF JOB: Under general supervision and following standard operating procedures, assists researchers and supervisors in collecting experimental data related to research farm operations. The primary emphasis is on performing repairs and maintenance of buildings and operation of complex farm equipment. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Depending on divisional assignment, the following are typical * Performs routine tasks such as feeding, watering and milking of farm animals: * Repairs and maintains farm equipment and facilities; * Provides assistance to researchers in planting, harvesting, conducting experiments and collecting experimental data; * Operates complex farm equipment and tools such as front end loader, computerized milking system, etc. * Administers drugs and medication to animals as instructed; * Reports unusual instances or conditions affecting the well-being of animals; * Breeds and raises animals; * May provide training to personnel or student workers; * Maintains production, health and daily inventory records; * May perform the duties of Farm Assistant I; * Performs other related duties as assigned. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS/OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURES: The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES: Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED with two years of basic farm experience including tractor experience. Requires knowledge of crops, animals and/or poultry management; plumbing, carpentry, welding and mechanical skills; and the ability to communicate effectively and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: With or without assistance, must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work in cramped areas and positions for extended periods of time, climb ladders in excess of 50 feet, and work above floor level or in pits. May be required to maintain a valid CDL A, B or C operator's license. Employment is dependent upon passing a University-specified medical evaluation related to the use of respiratory protection equipment.
