FLSA Status: Nonexempt Revised July 1, 1999 NATURE OF JOB: Under general supervision and following standard operating procedures, performs a variety of duties related to care and maintenance of various agricultural animals and research farm operations. The primary emphasis is on performing routine care and feeding of animals, building maintenance and operation of agricultural equipment. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Depending on unit assignment, the following are typical * Performs routine tasks such as feeding and watering of farm animals; * Cleans and disinfects poultry, laboratory and farm animals' housing, cages and equipment; maintains building and equipment in proper working condition; * Transfers and receives animals; * Assists in incinerating dirty bedding and animal carcasses; * Unloads, loads and stores feed and bedding; * Operates agricultural equipment and machinery (tractors, lawn mowers, etc.) following standard operating procedures; * May train student workers; * Performs other related duties as assigned. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS/OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURES: The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES: Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED with basic knowledge of farm and animal care. Basic mechanical, carpentry and plumbing aptitude and the ability to communicate effectively and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds required. Tractor experience may be required. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: With or without assistance, must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work in cramped areas and positions for extended periods of time, climb ladders in excess of 50 feet, and work above floor level or in pits. May be required to maintain a valid CDL A, B or C operator's license. Employment is dependent upon passing a University-specified medical evaluation related to the use of respiratory protection equipment.
