UTILITY WORKER (T2) 
FLSA Status: Nonexempt

NATURE OF JOB:
Under immediate supervision, performs responsible duties in preparation and maintenance of grounds, buildings and equipment required for the efficient operation of a University facility; limited independent judgment is required in the application of prescribed policies and procedures. 

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Depending on assignment, the following are typical examples of work: 

* Maintains the overall cleanliness of a University facility, utilizing heavy and/or complex cleaning equipment; 
* Moves furniture and miscellaneous equipment as directed; 
* Sweeps or shovels snow from steps and walks at building entrances and connecting walks; 
* Cleans, renovates and renews floor surface finishes; 
* Operates heavy-duty water removal machines; 
* Removes or assists in removing animals from buildings; 
* Operates shampoo and sanding machines; 
* Replaces overhead lights requiring use of ladders; 
* Reports maintenance deficiencies in assigned work area; 
* Removes bulk trash from buildings using mechanical equipment where provided; 
* Washes windows requiring use of high ladders; 
* Vacuums, mops, sweeps and scrubs floors and other surfaces; 
* Locks and unlocks interior and exterior doors to classrooms, lecture rooms, offices, etc.; 
* Maintains an inventory of equipment and stock; 
* Performs other related duties as assigned.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS/OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURES:
The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials. 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES:
Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED and one year's experience in the operation and maintenance of equipment necessary to facilitate the completion of job duties. Requires the ability to communicate effectively and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to work above and below ground level, ascend and descend ladders up to 50 feet, work in cramped quarters, and lift, with or without assistance, up to 50 pounds. May require possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
