FLSA Status: Nonexempt Revised July 1, 1999 NATURE OF JOB: Under limited supervision, assists in the operation of the security function of the emergency communication center, and participates in employment and disciplinary decisions, independent judgment is required in the application of procedures and policy. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Depending on divisional assignment, the following are typical * Answers multiline telephone system for emergency and nonemergency situations and direct calls appropriately; collects information from caller and verifies information for accuracy; * Monitors and operates fire and security alarm computer systems, video surveillance equipment for the campus, assists Facilities in restoring system malfunctions; * Assists visitors, faculty, staff, students, parents, outside contractors, vendors with a wide variety of problems concerns, etc.; * Updates appropriate manuals in the communications center (i.e. Standard Operating Procedures, Emergency Contacts, Warrant Files, and other related manuals; * Responsible for inventory, maintenance of records, and requisitioning supplies and equipment; checks purchase orders and vendors' invoices for accuracy; reconciles and deposits cash receipts; * Responsible for recruitment, selection and supervision of miscellaneous wage personnel and student employees; * Responsible for general housekeeping; briefs other staff on work assignments, adjusts work schedules and/or hours of operation; * Receives requests for special security, parking or transit services and schedules appropriate personnel and equipment as required; * Prepares written reports; * Responds to inquiries and complaints; * Checks for quality control; * Responsible for scheduling the opening/closing of University facilities; * Maintains liaison with representatives of University units and external agencies; * Fills in for other officers when necessary; * Performs other related duties as assigned. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES: Requires a minimum of high school diploma or GED with four years of related experience; or an Associate's degree and one year experience. Requires customer service, public relations, human relations, interpersonal and verbal communication skills; basic computer skills; the ability to communicate effectively and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license; must pass a preemployment drug screening test as well as a battery of preemployment tests designed to measure mental skills, writing skills, and physical fitness and agility applicable to the position, and a comprehensive background investigation including driving record, financial status and criminal history.
