SENIOR ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT (R-08)

NATURE OF JOB:
Under limited supervision, performs and/or oversees a variety of associated complex administrative, fiscal, staff support and planning activities, some of which require advanced or specialized knowledge and skills such as budget administration and control, equipment, facilities and inventory management, specialized record keeping and database management, and/or specified information gathering projects and tasks. The principal emphasis is on performing high level administrative or financial functions requiring the exercise of independent judgment and discretion. May coordinate complex administrative activities across multiple organizational units.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Depending on divisional assignment, the following are typical

* Administers a program or performs high level administrative functions that may impact multiple organizational units;
* Interprets applicable federal and state regulations; 
* Interprets and assists with the development of University policies and procedures;
* Makes process improvements and implements recommendations;
* Analyzes and develops budget recommendations for unit;
* Develops expenditure projections; collects data and conducts sophisticated analysis;
* Acts as liaison between the University and external organizations;
* Handles complaints and special needs as they arise; 
* May grant special exceptions to University's administrative or academic policies;
* Researches and prepares detailed reports by utilizing multiple sources;
* Coordinates budget turnaround process;
* Participates in systems design and monitors data integrity;
* Generates and analyzes complex ad hoc reports from mainframe and microcomputer databases;
* Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES:
Requires a minimum of an Associate's degree or equivalent course work in business administration, accounting or related field with six years of administrative or financial analysis experience. Related progressive experience beyond a high school diploma or GED may be substituted for education or additional related education may be substituted for required experience.  Knowledge of unit programs, policies and procedures preferred. Requires the ability to analyze and interpret data and make independent decisions and judgments in keeping with the position level; demonstrated ability to use advanced techniques in spreadsheet, database, and/or presentation software; and the ability to communicate and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
