PLANS ROOM ASSISTANT (R5)

NATURE OF JOB:
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Project Manager/Plans Room Manager, performs complex and nonroutine records duties including research, analysis and assistance in preparation of technical graphics. The principal emphasis is on obtaining and verifying information and responding to Plans Room requests. Independent judgment is required to resolve nonroutine problems and interpret drawings and facilities information obtained from a wide variety of sources.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Depending on divisional assignment, the following are typical

* Assists the University community, outside consultants, contractors and regulatory agencies in obtaining plans and project information pertaining to the University facilities; dispenses information orally and/or in writing;
* Researches and responds to the routine and nonroutine questions and requests from the University community, outside consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies;
* Analyzes and interprets blueprints, drawings and facilities information using the Plans Room database or other sources;
* Provides guidance to student workers as needed;
* Maintains and updates a variety of complex records and controls; verifies, codes and logs plans and technical graphics for storage and retrieval;
* Archives departmental project files and plans;
* Performs secretarial duties as needed;
* Assists in preparation of technical graphics using CAD;
* Conducts physical building surveys to assist with preparation of technical graphics for the facilities database and design purposes; performs computations, calculates and verifies building/room measurements;
* Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES:
Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED and three years of responsible clerical/record processing and/or inventory control experience. Additional related education may be substituted for required experience. University and customer service experience preferred. Requires general knowledge of business operating procedures and standard business practices; ability to resolve problems independently; interpret University policies and applicable regulations; basic word processing and computer skills including ability to input, edit, save, retrieve data and create queries; working knowledge of electronic information systems including databases and spreadsheets; Autocad experience; and the ability to communicate effectively and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. Working knowledge of Windows 95 and MS-Office preferred. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Some positions may require the ability to lift and carry, with or without assistance, items weighing up to 50 pounds, climb ladders up to 4 1/2 feet, and bend and reach to place boxes and/or rolls on shelves. Some positions may require a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
