RECORDS TECHNICIAN (R3)
FLSA Status: Nonexempt

NATURE OF JOB:
Under general supervision, performs routine clerical/record processing, inventory control and bookkeeping duties. The principal emphasis is on performing a variety of clerical processing tasks including information verification, input, retrieval and routine reconciliation. Independent judgment is required in the application of established procedures in routine matters. 

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Depending on divisional assignment, the following are typical

* Receives and screens input of source documents; 
* Verifies data for accuracy and completeness; resolves discrepancies independently as authorized; 
* Accesses and retrieves data from various sources; posts data to records, codes and batches data for entry and/or verifies coding of source documents;
* Performs routine batching, retrieval of information and data entry; 
* Receives requests; resolves routine complaints and problems; refers nonroutine problems to the appropriate person(s); 
* Receives and reviews data error reports; locates and examines source documents to resolve coding errors; resubmits corrected data;
* Operates cash register to record and secure monies received;
* Prepares routine reports in established format; 
* Maintains and updates a variety of records according to established controls; 
* Balances or reconciles records and data to controls; 
* Prepares statistics and/or completes scheduled reports in established format; 
* Responds to inquiries regarding status of record and inventory control information with appropriate status; 
* Performs basic calculations as required for verification of account statements,  reconciliations, rate determinations, price determinations, etc.; 
* Provides basic training and guidance to student workers or other personnel; 
* Operates standard office equipment;
* Performs other related duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES:
Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED and one year of clerical inventory control, data entry and/or retail experience. Additional related education may be substituted for required experience. Requires knowledge of records maintenance, processing and retrieval; basic bookkeeping techniques; and ability to learn operating procedures of appropriate office, exercise discretion in handling confidential information, and respond to inquiries accurately and expeditiously. Customer service experience desirable. Requires basic computing skills including ability to input, edit, save and retrieve data; and the ability to communicate effectively and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
May need to pass data entry test. Some positions may require the ability to lift  and carry, with or without assistance, boxes weighing up to 50 pounds, climb ladders up to 4 1/2 feet, and bend and reach to place boxes on shelves. Some positions may require a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
