FLSA Status: Nonexempt Revised July 1, 1999 NATURE OF JOB: Under general supervision, performs a variety of complex duties in a major library unit. The principal emphasis is on applying technical skills and knowledge to specialized functions in a variety of library operations; independent judgment is required in the application and development of library procedures. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Depending on divisional assignment, the following are typical examples of work: * Uses a variety of reference sources including DELCAT, local and remote databases, and the Internet, to provide in-person and telephone assistance to faculty, staff, students and the general public; * Maintains a variety of complex financial and statistical records including the clearing of invoices for payment, the preparation of the same for accounts payable and the reconciliation of monthly statements; * Responsible for copy cataloging; edits bibliographic records by interpreting and applying complex cataloging rules according to nationally accepted standards; assigns classification numbers; * Responsible for processing of Special Collections materials; * Interprets and edits records in the OCLC system as appropriate; * Monitors the work flow of new materials being processed, corresponding with domestic and foreign vendors on invoice problems, overcharges, etc.; resolves problems with difficult orders; * Reconciles receipt of library materials with orders and confirms for payment; * Supervises student assistants including hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating performance; * Performs other related duties as assigned. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES: Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED with specialized library related skills gained from four years of experience of a progressively responsible nature preferred; two years of college related course work preferred. Requires working knowledge of library records, the management module of DELCAT and other specialized library databases, and procedures in specific departmental operations; demonstrated ability to perform difficult bibliographic searches in a variety of bibliographic databases and the Internet; demonstrated ability to use intermediate computer techniques in word processing, spreadsheet, database and Web-based applications; comprehensive reading skill in modern foreign language(s) may be required; ability to follow complex instructions; ability to work independently and to devise solutions to problems; and the ability to communicate effectively and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
