Leaving the University


For continous improvement, the employee is encouraged to communicate their employment experience at the University of Delaware by completing an Exit Interview Survey. The employee may complete the exit interview survey online, or in person with Labor Relations.

Process for Employees

    Offboarding

    • Complete an online Exit Survey*
    • If an employee terminates their employment in the middle of the month, the employee is responsible for the employee contribution toward their benefits for the month (as University benefits continue until the end of the month). As necessary, HR-Benefits will take double deductions from the first pay of the month.
    • The employee will be required to return University property including, but not limited to, the following:
      • Keys
      • ID Card (except for eligible retirees)
      • Computers
      • Cell Phones
      • Procurement cards (card canceled by Procurement once the termination is in HR system)
      • System access will be canceled by IT once the termination is in HR System
    • Complete a Separation Checklist

Address Changes

Individuals should notify the University of any changes in address, as UD must issue a W-2 for the current tax year.

Participants in the Delaware Employees' Pension plan may update their address with the Office of Pensions by calling 800-722-7300.

Fidelity Investments and/or TIAA-CREF can be notified of address changes by phone or through the vendor's website:

The University will report the termination date to the retirement plan vendor (Fidelity Investments and/or TIAA-CREF).

Benefits

The University will issue notices about continuation of health, dental and vision benefits (COBRA) that will be sent to the employee address that is currently on file. The health plan notice will be issued by Ceridian, a third-party administrator. The dental and vision notices will be sent directly by the University.

Education Benefits

An eligible employee must be on the active payroll as of the end of the late registration (free drop/add) period for the semester/session in which the education benefit (Course Fee Waiver, Tuition Remission and/or Tuition Exchange) is requested.

Life Insurance

The life insurance vendor, MetLife, will contact eligible employees by mail with information about portability and/or conversion of employee and/or dependent life insurance after leaving the University.
