This summer, UD is participating in the Blood Bank of Delmarva’s 10th annual Summer Blood
Challenge, and UD faculty, staff, their family members and friends are invited to donate blood.

 Every day across Delmarva, more than 350 blood donors are needed to maintain the
local blood supply. By participating in the Summer Blood Challenge, The University of  Delaware
is helping the Blood Bank avoid serious blood shortages that have hit other areas of the
country. Typically fewer donors are available in the summer because of vacations and
other activities.

Earn Points

• Give Blood: 1-2 points (points vary based on type of donation)
Any eligible donor can earn points for our organization (that’s right – employees,
spouses, friends, neighbors, customers!). Just make sure donors fill out a Hero
Card with UD’s name before giving blood. Hero Cards are located at all
donor locations. Visit www.delmarvablood.org/donate or call 1 888 8-BLOOD-8
for an appointment.

• Become a Member: 1 point
UD faculty and staff who wish to join, may complete a membership form and submit it to Human Resources-Benefits.  Your membership fee of $5 will be paid by the University. Please enter “University of Delaware” in the Employer section of the membership form.

• Young Blood: 2 bonus points
To encourage participation among this important age group, those aged 35 and
under will receive a one-time bonus of two points when they join the Blood Bank
or donate blood.

The Blood Bank has four donor centers (Wilmington, Newark, and Dover, DE and
Salisbury, MD) and 30 established blood drive locations. Check the schedule at
