The reason I chose UD: There were several factors that went into my choosing Delaware as the school for me. Being accepted into the Honors Program had a big influence on my decision. Although I liked the idea of being at a big school, I also enjoyed the thought of feeling part of a small community as well. Being from New York, the location was also a major factor, as I can conveniently go home whenever I choose. I also wanted to live in a college town, where a majority of the people stayed on campus over the weekend.
Most influential UD professor: My most influential professor would have to be Melanie Scriptunas. She taught the ENGL110 course concerning the Environment and Literature. I enjoyed this course particularly as it incorporated my two biggest interests, environmental conservation, and writing. Melanie made this class even more interesting by involving hands-on learning activities such as planting trees at South College and watching movies such as Food Inc.
Favorite Honors experience: My favorite Honors experience would have to be simply living on an all Honors floor. It was so convenient living with people taking similar courses with you, and with people that also shared the same interests. The friends I made in Honors housing will undoubtedly be friends I have for the rest of my time at UD, as well as throughout my life.
I couldn't imagine the UD Honors Program without . . . Kristin Benninghoff. Sorry if this creeps you out Kristin but you literally kept me sane freshman year. =)
What does the UDHP mean to me? The UD Honors Program for me provides a small-knit community at such a large university. It is easy to feel overwhelmed and lost at such a big school, and the small classes that the Honors Program provides gives students a chance to build solid relationships with professors.
When I'm up late studying . . . I crave shrimp tempura from Mizu.
My favorite Honors Program and UD traditions are . . . study breaks during finals. They were a great stress reliever during those late hours.
