Important Notice -
Encryption Required for all UD E-mail Clients

In an effort to improve the security of University information resources,
UD now requires that all e-mail software use an SSL-encrypted connection to our inbound mail server.

Please make the changes below in any e-mail programs you use,
so you can continue to access UD e-mail.


Note: If changing your e-mail program setup is a major inconvenience to you, discontinue its use and switch to UD Webmail Direct at mail.udel.edu.

warning If your e-mail program setup does not match one listed below, or you have any other questions, please complete the IT Help Request form, specifying what e-mail program(s) you use. Thank you.

Windows

  • Thunderbird  (IMAP Server setup)
    Important Note:  If your screen layout in Step 7 above says Server Type: POP Mail Server, when you click the SSL button, the port number will automatically change to 995, the correct setting for POP.

     
  • Mozilla 1.7.x
     
  • Outlook Express
    1. Click the Tools menu, and select Accounts...
    2. On the Mail tab, select the UD mail account and hit Properties.
    3. Click the Advanced tab.
    4. If your screen says..
      Incoming mail (IMAP), check the box next to
      This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
      The port should change to 993.

      If your screen says..
      Incoming mail (POP3), check the box next to
      This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
      The port should change to 995.
       
    5. Click OK to save the settings.

     
  • Outlook
    Outlook 2003
    1. Go to:  Tools - Email Accounts.
       
    2. Click View or Change Existing E-Mail Accounts and click Next.
       
    3. Select your UD e-mail account and click Change.
       
    4. Click the More Settings button and then the Advanced tab.
       
    5. If your screen says...
      Incoming Server (IMAP), CHECK the box "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)." That should cause the port number to change to 993.

      If your screen says... Incoming Server (POP), CHECK the box "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)." That should cause the port number to change to 995.
       
    6. For Outgoing Server (SMTP), the port number should be 25. Do NOT check the box saying "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)
       
    7. Click OK to save the settings.
    Outlook 2007
    1. Go to:  Tools - Account Settings and the E-mail tab.
       
    2. Select your UD e-mail account and click Change.
       
    3. Click the More Settings button and the Advanced tab.
       
    4. If your screen says...
      Incoming Server (IMAP), CHECK the box "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)." That should cause the port number to change to 993.

      If your screen says... Incoming Server (POP), CHECK the box "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)." That should cause the port number to change to 995.
       
    5. For Outgoing Server (SMTP), the port number should be 25. For "Use the following type of encrypted connection specify: TLS.
       
    6. Click OK to save the settings.
       
    7. If you are given the option, click Next and click Finish.
       

Macintosh

  • MacOS X Mail

If Incoming mail is set to (IMAP),

  • Check the box next to This server requires a secure connection (SSL)..
  • The port should change to 993.

If Incoming mail is set to (POP3),

  • Check the box next to This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
  • The port should change to 995.
