Upon arrival on campus ...
- Update Emergency Notification and Setup Voice Mail
- Connect your computer to the UD Network.
On-campus Students:
- Check with your RA for late-breaking connection news.
- You receive one permanent IP address for your in-room (wall) connection.

- Before connecting your computer to the campus network,
make sure it is not set to share its network connection:
Windows-Turn off Internet Connection Sharing
Macintosh- Do NOT allow computer to create networks.
- You must register your computer - its Ethernet card address AND wireless card address if you have one,
in order to have full Internet access. If your Ethernet or wireless card is NOT registered,
you will only be able to access UD pages. For extra help with the steps below, review the Consulting on Demand Videos:

- Register your Network Connection:
- Disable your wireless card, if you have one.
This will prevent network conflicts.

- Click Start, click Control Panel, click Network and
Sharing Center, and then click View Status
for the Wireless Connection.
- Click Disable.

- Click Start, click Control Panel, click Network and
Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.
- Right-click Wireless Network Connection and then click Disable.

- Click on the Airport icon
and select Turn Airport Off.
|
- Register the Ethernet (wired) Connection:
- Plug your Ethernet cable into your computer's Ethernet connection and the Ethernet jack in the wall.
- Start your computer.

New Students |
- Start your Internet browser and type in the address:
www.udel.edu/network.
If your browser is trying to load a home page outside of UD, hit "Stop"
or the x icon in Internet Explorer,and type in the address above.
- If you can't bring up www.udel.edu/network,
see IP Release/Renew.
- Login and choose Register a computer for Internet access.
If security problems are detected, follow instructions to resolve them.
- Wait 10 minutes and reboot the computer. Complete steps at
IP Release/Renew below, and
you should have full access to the Internet.

- Are you using a different computer or Ethernet card than last semester?
Follow directions above to register the ethernet card.

- Register the Wireless connection, if you have one:
- Go to your Residence Lounge. (Wireless access is not guaranteed in Residence rooms.)
- If you disabled your wireless card in Step A, re-enable it now by clicking
Enable in the Windows instructions above
OR Turn Airport On (Macintosh).

- Setup your wireless connection: UDel Secure wireless network
UDel wireless (unsecured).
- Start your Internet browser and type the address: www.udel.edu/network.
- Login and choose Register a computer for Internet access. Wait 10 minutes and restart the computer.
- Complete steps at IP Release/Renew below, and you should have full access to the Internet.
- When using the Ethernet connection in your room, disable the wireless card to prevent network conflicts.

If you can't bring up the web page www.udel.edu/network,
OR you can't connect to the Internet after registering your computer:

- Click on the Start Button which places your cursor in the Start-Search box.
- Type cmd and hit Shift-Ctrl-Enter.
- When prompted "Windows needs your permission to continue", choose Continue
to receive the black command prompt window.
- On the command line in the black window, type
ipconfig /release (one space before /)
- Then type
ipconfig /renew
(one space before /)
The system should respond with an IPv4 address of
10.x.x.x or 128.175.x.x (x is a number) under the heading
"Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection" or "Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection".
- Go to www.udel.edu/network, login and
register your computer.

- Go to the Start Button and choose Run.
- In the Open box, type cmd
and hit OK.
- On the command line in the black window, type
ipconfig /release (one space before /)
The system should respond with an IP address of
all zeros.
- Then type
ipconfig /renew (one space before /)
The system should respond with an IP address of
10.x.x.x or 128.175.x.x (x is a number).
- Go to www.udel.edu/network, login and
register your computer.

OS X 10.5
- From the Apple Menu, click System Preferences.
- Click Network.
- Click on the network adapter you are working with - Ethernet or AirPort.
- It should specify Configure "Using DHCP".
- Click the Advanced button and the Renew DHCP Lease button.
- Go to www.udel.edu/network, login and
register your computer.
OS X 10.4
- From the Apple Menu, click System Preferences.
- Click Network.
- In the Show pop-up menu, choose Network Port Configurations.
- Uncheck the Network configuration you want to release (Built-in Ethernet or AirPort).
- Click Apply Now.
- Re-check the box to turn the configuration back on and click Apply Now.
- Go to www.udel.edu/network, login and
register your computer.

- Register your laptop's wired or wireless card for full internet access.

- Read UD e-mail
- The recommended method to read UD e-mail is UD webmail, available through any browser at the web address: http://mail.udel.edu
- If your UD mail was forwarded to another account, remove e-mail forwarding:
- Login to the University of Delaware Network.
- Choose "Forward your E-mail". Your current forwarding information will be listed.
- Choose "Remove forwarding".
- Install software as needed from the UDeploy
- UDeploy is the site for downloading UD-licensed and customized software, including web browsers and utilities.
