CHS GRANT-IN-AID INSTRUCTIONS
Purpose and Priority
Grant-in-aid funds are used to support the development of research activities of faculty and professional staff in the College of Health Sciences. Priority will be given to promising seed requests for collection of pilot data that will be used as a platform for the development of proposals for external funding.
Procedures
- Funding of up to $5,000 will be awarded on a competitive basis for proposals submitted by one or more faculty members.
- The CRD Advisory Council will critically review submitted proposals, with support awarded to those proposed projects that are most in line with the identified funding priorities.
- Competition deadlines for the 2005-2006 academic year will be November 1st and March 1st, although consideration may be given to proposals submitted at other times, given appropriate rationale.
- Submit proposals electronically to jimr@udel.edu.
Allowable Uses of Grant-In-Aid Funds
- Examples of appropriate requests for use of grant-in-aid funds include supplies and equipment central to the research effort, student assistants, and subject incentives.
- Travel may be supported only when essential for purposes of data collection.
- Examples of requests for use of grant-in-aid funds that will not be supported in the absence of compelling rationale include computer hardware and faculty salaries.
Guidelines for Completion of the Grant-In-Aid Proposal
- Complete all items on the application form for the Grant-In-Aid.
- Submit funding requests in advance of needing or spending the funds.

Access to Funds
- The spending of funds will be coordinated between the P.I.’s Department Administrative Assistant and the College Business Manager.
- Funds for projects involving human subjects will be provided only after the P.I. has provided a copy of the University’s Human Subjects Board approval.
- Any change in the proposal budget affecting $1,000 or more of the amount awarded must be approved in advance by the CRD Advisory Council.
Follow-Up Report and Presentation
- After the funds have been used or at the end of one year, the P.I. will provide a follow-up report summarizing the results from the project and identifying any resulting grant applications, presentations, publications, or other scholarly outcomes.
- A short oral presentation summarizing the project at a College Faculty Meeting or workshop during the year following completion of the project will also be required.
