University Research Grant Opportunities

Each year the Research Office invites faculty to submit proposals for annual programs of the General University Research (GUR) fund and the UD Research Foundation (UDRF) (http://www.udel.edu/research/preparing/funding.html). GUR funding provides for grants up to $6,000 for scholarly endeavors; the UDRF funds scientific proposals. We have listened to feedback on these programs and have formulated significant changes for the forthcoming program announcements. Below are the three opportunities available from the University:

FY10 UDRF grants to early career faculty

FY10 UDRF grants to early career faculty: UDRF funds may be requested up to $25,000. With the matching requirements, this raises the potential value to $35,000.

  • Abstract and Full Proposal to Dean (with recommendation for match): 11/19/09

UDRF Strategic Initiative Grants

The UDRF is also pleased to continue with the Strategic Initiatives award program established in 2008 to support high quality, collaborative scientific research projects in the three research areas emphasized in the strategic plan, the Path to Prominence: Life and Health Sciences, Energy, and the Environment. This program requires a joint proposal from a junior faculty member and a tenured faculty mentor.

  • Proposal to Department Chair and to CRD Chair: 10/1/09
  • Proposal to Dean: 10/08/09
  • Proposal to Research Office:  10/15/09
  • Awards Announced: About 12/1/09
  • Funding Available:  12/15/09

Note:  Early career faculty are eligible to apply for both UDRF programs above, but the proposals should be for substantially different research.

General University Research fund awards

This process has an improved online component for submission. The proposals must still be copied for the reviewers, but the process has been streamlined for efficiency. The Deans (in our case, the Dean and the Center for Research Development) are asked to rank their college’s submission on the form which is included in the guidelines. This is very helpful to the committee and we ask that you take the necessary time to evaluate your college’s submissions.

  • Proposal Due to Department Chair and to CRD Chair: 10/08/09
  • Proposal Due to Dean: 10/22/09
  • Proposal Due to Research Office: 11/12/09
  • Awards announced: On or around 03/04/10
  • Funding Available: 06/01/10
