Definition of Awards: In general, awards are one-time honors. They may or may not carry a monetary award. In most cases, they are recognized at the Honor’s Day Award Ceremony.
Definition of Scholarships: Scholarships, in most cases, may be renewed annually provided that the criteria continue to be met (i.e. GPA, financial need, residency, etc). In the case of specific College of Health Sciences and individual department scholarships – these are not transferable to another major. For example, a scholarship in nursing carries the criteria of being a nursing major. The scholarship will be forfeited if you change majors outside of nursing. Scholarships awarded at the University level may or may not be transferable.
University-Wide Awards:
- Alumni Honors Day Book Award
- Sophomore or Junior in each College
- Sincere desire for knowledge and has participated in extracurricular activities designed to help fellow students achieve academic success
- Submit bio form to department/school representative
- Panel of Distinguished Seniors
- One Senior chosen from each College
- Recognizes outstanding scholarship
- Minimum 3.5 GPA, 15 credit hours average each semester, 75 percent of credits earned at the University

- Alexander J. Taylor Sr. Award for Outstanding Senior
- Emalea P. Warner Award for Outstanding Senior
- Mae Carter Scholarship Award
- Strong commitment to scholarship and service to women
- Undergraduate woman student
- Minimum G.P.A. of 3.0
- Evidence of work to advance the status of women at the University
- Preference given to returning adult women (a woman student who is over 25 and entering college for the first time or returning after a period of time not attending college)
