This policy is part of the 2008-2009 Academic Year Student Housing Agreement.

Cancellations

Cancellations that occur prior to the binding date of your Student Housing Agreement are considered cancellations of your housing application. Students who cancel their Agreement after the binding date of the Agreement remain fully liable for payment unless a release is granted. The following section describes policies pertaining to each type of cancellation.

Student-Initiated Cancellations Before Binding Date (Note: All refunds will be applied as a credit to the Student Account)

To cancel your residence hall application before the binding date of your Student Housing Agreement, submit a written cancellation request to Housing Assignment Services.

Incoming Students
Cancellation requests received by the cancellation deadline for each semester or session will result in a partial refund. Application cancellation requests received before May 31 result in a $100 refund of the Housing deposit. If Requests for release received after the binding date of the Student Housing Agreement are approved, the $200 deposit will be forfeited.

Make note of the cancellation deadlines for partial refunds:

Fall Semester May 31 $100 refund
Winter Session December 20
No refund*
Winter Session/Spring Semester December 20 $100 refund
Spring Semester December 20 $100 refund
Summer Session May 31 No refund*
* No deposit required for these unique sessions.

Returning Students
If you apply for housing for the next year and then cancel your application by April 15, you will receive a $100 refund of any paid housing deposit. No refunds are offered after that time.

If you apply for housing for the next year and are placed on a waiting list when fall assignments are released, you can cancel your application. You will receive a $100 refund to your student account until you are assigned, or May 31, whichever comes first. No refunds are offered after this date.

Make note of the cancellation deadlines for partial refunds: (Note: All refunds will be applied as a credit to the Student Account)

Fall Semester April 15 $100 refund
Winter Session December 20 No refund*
Winter Session/Spring Semester December 20 $100 refund
Spring Semester December 20 $00 refund
Summer Session May 31 No refund*
* No deposit required for these unique sessions

If you cancel an application for spring semester housing by December 20, you will receive a $100 refund.

Note: Failure to occupy your assigned space does not constitute cancellation of the Student Housing Agreement.

Note: Be certain to have written confirmation of your cancellation or release prior to formalizing agreements for alternative housing.

Deferred Housing Applications
Instead of canceling your housing application, you may ask to have your housing application and deposit deferred from the fall semester to the spring semester. A specific assignment is not deferred and an assignment cannot be guaranteed for spring semester. However, if you defer your housing application from the fall to a future term and then cancel your application prior to the binding date, you will forfeit your entire application deposit. You will be bound by the Student Housing Agreement if your application is active as of December 20. Housing deposits cannot be deferred from one academic year to the next.
