Assignment Letters to Upperclass Students

    Dear Student,

We’re so happy that you’ve decided to live on campus again this fall!  You and so many of your friends and acquaintances have opted to take advantage of on-campus housing’s many features, though, that we have not been able to fulfill every student's request.

The primary factor in assignments is priority – your priority is determined by the number of fall and spring semesters you’ve lived on campus.  Within the priority group, applications are processed at random.

If your assignment does not meet your needs, you have the option to complete a Summer Room Change form at www.udel.edu/housingchange between April 26 and May 31. Please be assured that if you submit a room change request, we will do our best to find a housing assignment that does meet your needs. For complete information, please refer to our on-line Room Change Procedures at www.udel.edu/has/roomchanges.

If you have further questions, please contact us at ud-housing@udel.edu or call (302) 831-3676. Please provide your student ID number for a quicker response. You may also visit the office at 5 Courtney Street.

For more information regarding housing assignments, please visit the Assignment Release webpage. If you have questions about Move-In Day, please review our Move-In Guide (available June 1).

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

    Sincerely,
    Housing Assignment Services

Please click on the statement below that applies to your situation for more information.

I applied after April 1 and am on the non-guaranteed waiting list.

    Dear Student,

Since you applied for on-campus housing after the April 1 deadline, you have been placed on a waiting list, however you are not guaranteed housing at this time. Although it is possible that we will receive enough cancellations to accommodate the students on this list, we do not yet have enough cancellations to guarantee students housing who are on the non-guaranteed waiting list.  We will continue to monitor the cancellations throughout May and will send students on the non-guaranteed list a status update in the beginning of June.

Please note the following information as you consider your housing options for the 2013-2014 academic year:

    • You may cancel your housing application at any time prior to being guaranteed housing (see below).  Your $200 housing deposit will be credited to your student account.
    • You may keep your application and deposit on file.  You may wish to investigate other housing options if you are not guaranteed housing by early June. Please check our off-campus housing website, the City of Newark website, or the UD Classifieds for listings.
    • If it is determined that we can guarantee you housing, you will receive an e-mail informing you of this guarantee.  This e-mail may or may not include an actual housing assignment.  For this reason, it is important that you check your UD e-mail frequently.  You may cancel your application within 7 business days of the notification of guaranteed housing and will receive a credit of the $200 deposit to your student account.  If you do not cancel your housing application within the 7 business days, you will be bound to the Academic Year Student Housing Agreement.  Please do not sign an off-campus lease until you confirm that you are no longer obligated.
    • The preference form will be available on April 26. Please log in to complete your preference form.

If you have questions, please contact us at ud-housing@udel.edu or call (302) 831-3676.  Please provide your student ID number for a quicker response. You may also visit the office at 5 Courtney Street.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I was part of a Friends Together Group but was not assigned with my requested group.

    Dear Student,

The Friends Together Living Option is very popular.  Unfortunately, all groups were not able to be accommodated in their requested locations and some groups had to be split up so that students in a higher priority group or students with Return Request options could be accommodated.  Also some students who did not fill rooms, suites, or apartments were not able to be placed with their Friends Together Group.

We may be able to reassign you later this semester or during the summer as cancellations are received.
Please consider the following options as you make living arrangements for the 2013-2014 academic year:

  • If you would to keep your current assignment you do not need to take further action.
  • If you prefer to be assigned near your Friends Together Group, you may submit a Summer Room Change Request Form online between April 26 and May 31.  Although we are unable to guarantee a specific space or location, we will consider your request.

  • If you have questions regarding our options, contact Housing Assignment Services at ud-housing@udel.edu or call (302) 831-3676. Please provide your student ID number for a quicker response.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I have been assigned to a double room, but I requested a single room.

    Dear Student,

Unfortunately, there were twice as many requests for singles than available space, and you have been assigned to a double room with a roommate.

We may be able to assign you to a single as we receive cancellations from returning students throughout the summer.

Please consider the following options as you make living arrangements for the 2013-2014 academic year:

  • If you would like to keep your current assignment you do not need to take further action.
  • If you prefer to be assigned to a single room, you may submit a Summer Room Change Request Form online between April 26 and May 31. Although we are unable to guarantee a specific space or location, we will give you priority as we receive openings for single rooms.

If you have questions regarding your options, contact us at ud-housing@udel.edu or call (302) 831-3676. Please provide your student ID number for a quicker response.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I requested to live on an Honors floor, but have been assigned to a different floor.

    Dear Student,

You originally applied to live on an Upperclass Honors Floor in North Central or South Central Campus. Unfortunately, there were more students who requested assignment to these floors than the number of spaces available. Students who are enrolled in the Honors Program and have a minimum 3.0 GPA are given priority for spaces on the Honors floors.

We determined your assignment based on the preferences you indicated on the Housing Application.

If you would like to keep your current assignment you do not need to take further action.

If you would like to change your assignment, please consider the following options:

  • If you still would like to be assigned to an Upperclass Honors Floor, you may submit a Summer Room Change Request Form online between April 26 and May 31. Although we are unable to guarantee a specific space or location, we will give you priority as we receive openings for Honors floors.
  • If you and your roommate wish to be reassigned together, both of you must complete and submit the online form.
  • Although we are unable to guarantee a specific location, we will give your room type as much priority as possible as we process your application.
  • You will be reasigned according to the original Honors priority (Honors Program Semesters on campus, number of Honors Courses, and GPA).

We appreciate your understanding and will work to move you to your desired location, if possible. Spaces usually become available as students choose to study abroad, join Greek Life, transfer, or cancel their housing agreements.

If you have any questions, please contact us at ud-housing@udel.edu or call (302) 831-3676. Please provide your student ID number for a quicker response.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I requested a Christiana Towers two-bedroom apartment, but have been assigned to a one-bedroom apartment.

    Dear Student,

Unfortunately, there were more requests for two-bedroom apartments than available space and you were assigned to a one-bedroom apartment. If you applied as part of a full group, you may have been assigned to the same floor as your requested roommates.

As we receive cancellations from returning students throughout the summer, we may be able to assign you to a two-bedroom apartment.

Please keep the following options in mind as you make living arrangements for the 2013-2014 academic year:

  • If you would like to keep your current assignment, you do not need to take further action, but you will be responsible for the cost of the one-bedroom space.
  • If you prefer to be assigned to a two-bedroom apartment, you may submit a Summer Room Change Request Form online between April 26 and May 31. Although we are unable to guarantee a specific space or location, we will give you priority as we receive openings for two-bedroom apartments.

If you have any questions regarding your options, please contact us at ud-housing@udel.edu or call (302) 831-3676. Please provide your student ID number for a quicker response.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I applied for a Christiana Towers apartment but have been assigned to a traditional residence hall.

    Dear Student,

You originally applied to live in the Christiana Towers apartments. Unfortunately, there were more requests for this type of housing than the number of spaces available.

We therefore determined your assignment based on the preferences you indicated on the Housing Application.

As we receive cancellations from returning students throughout the summer, we may have openings for the Christiana Towers.

Please consider the following options as you make living arrangements for the 2013-2014 academic year:

  • If you would like to keep your assignment to a residence hall space, you do not need to do anything further.
  • If you prefer to be assigned to a Christiana Towers apartment, you may submit a Summer Room Change Request Form online between April 26 and May 31. Although we are unable to guarantee a specific space or location, we will give you priority as we receive openings for Christiana Towers apartments.

If you have any questions regarding your options, please contact us at ud-housing@udel.edu or call our office at (302) 831-3676. Please provide your student ID number for a quicker response.

I applied for a traditional residence hall but have been assigned to Sussex (substance-free housing).

    Dear Student,

Unfortunately, there were more requests for traditional housing than the number of spaces available. Though Sussex Hall is designated as a substance-free building, it is primarily a traditional residence hall.

We determined your assignment based on the preferences you indicated on the Housing Application. As a reminder, students are given priority according to the total number of Fall and Spring Semesters students have lived on campus. Applications are randomly processed within each priority group.

As we receive cancellations from returning students throughout the summer, we may be able to assign you to a room in a different traditional residence hall.

Please keep the following options in mind as you make living arrangements for the 2013-2014 academic year:

  • If you would like to keep your assigned space, you do not need to take further action.
  • If you prefer to be assigned to a different area of campus, you may submit a Summer Room Change Request Form online between April 26 and May 31. Although we are unable to guarantee a specific space or location, we will give you consideration as we receive openings for rooms in the traditional residence halls.

If you have any questions regarding your options, please contact us at ud-housing@udel.edu or call (302) 831-3676. Please provide your student ID number for a quicker response.

I applied for a traditional residence hall but have been assigned to Squire (I-House).

Dear Student,

There were more requests for traditional housing than the number of spaces available.  Although Squire houses the I-House Community, it is primarily a traditional residence hall.

I-House is a global community composed of matriculated University of Delaware International Student and Domestic Students.   Residents of I-House will be provided with many opportunities to interact with people from other cultures both one-on-one and in a group setting.

  • If you prefer to be assigned to a different area of campus or building, you may submit a Summer Room Change Request Form online between April 26 and May 31.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I am assigned to Smyth.

Dear Student,

There were more requests for traditional housing than the number of spaces available.  Although Smyth houses freshmen this year, next year it will house upper division and transfer students.

You will receive an email detailing information about your room change option if interested.

If you have any questions regarding your options, please contact us at ud-housing@udel.edu or call (302) 831-3676.  Please provide your student ID number for a quicker response.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
