The first Latina-based sorority founded at an Ivy-league institution, Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. was established on April 16, 1988, at Cornell University by five strong, visionary women.  The Founding Hermanas strove to establish an organization that would transcend the collegiate experience and consolidate their strength as responsible members of their community. As undergraduate students, they worked diligently to develop an organization whose mission and goals would encompass the experiences of all women, and whose ideals would nurture the growth of its members throughout their lives.  Our mission is to empower women through personal and professional advancement. Las Hermanas also work to promote the Latino community through public service and cultural awareness.

The Omicron Chapter of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. was founded on November 26, 2001, at the University of Delaware by four strong women determined to bring an organization to this campus that promoted Latino culture and awareness as well as personal and professional advancement of its members. Their legacy has been continued over the years by women who have followed in their footsteps to continue to be positive voices and role models by being leaders in the community, scholars in their classes, and activists for positive change not only for Latinos on this campus but also those in the surrounding and greater communities.
