COMPETITIVE SUPPORT FUNDS

UNIVERSITY GRADUATE SCHOLARS


Departments and programs are invited to submit names and dossiers of their nominees to the Office of Graduate Studies, which will be assisted by a faculty review committee in the selection of scholars. Nominations are open to both newly admitted students and graduate students currently enrolled. Awards are competitive and are based on many criteria including, challenging social, economic, educational, cultural or other life circumstances; academic achievements; first generation graduate student status; and/or need as determined by federal income guidelines (FAFSA*). University Graduate Scholars awards may be administered either as graduate fellowships or graduate assistantships. Awards are granted for one year. Students may be nominated for the award in subsequent years.

Nomination Directions: (Nomination deadline is February 22, 2008)
1) Completed Cover Sheet for each nominee;
2) A letter of nomination for each nominee from either the chairperson of the department or the director of the graduate program that describes the accomplishments and suitability of the nominee for this award;
3) A resume of the nominee;
4) No more than a two-page essay written by the nominee entitled "The issues or experiences in my background that have been challenging or have presented other life circumstances."

*Note: The admission application to Graduate School states that all U.S. citizens must file a FAFSA form if seeking a fellowship, assistantship, Perkins Loan, Stafford Loan or work study.
