The Office of the Provost, through the Office of the Vice Provost for Research
and Graduate Studies, is offering grants to academic units for innovative initiatives and
projects designed to improve the graduate experience and graduate student success at the
University of Delaware. These grants are expected to support the development and
implementation of graduate program redesign to enhance student success. Priority will
be given to proposals that seek to enhance educational, interdisciplinary, and cultural
experiences, ensure faculty mentoring and student-advisor accountability, strengthen
degree completion and time to completion, and improve graduate program policies and
practices. High priority will be given to those graduate program improvement plans that
address the need to increase the racial and cultural diversity of UD’s graduate student
population.
The grants will typically range from $10,000– $50,000, but will depend on the
scope and merits of the project. This funding is to be matched by departmental and/or
college financial resources for the term of funding, and is intended to support the
transition costs as academic units redirect and supplement resources to meet the recurring
needs of their redesigned graduate programs. Proposals must stipulate in a “Long Term
Funding Plan” how the recurring costs of innovations and improvements will be
supported once the transition is complete. It is also anticipated that revisions in
departmental Graduate Program Policy Statements must be reviewed and approved by the
Graduate Studies Committee of the Faculty Senate.
Proposals are to be submitted to the college dean with documented support of the
department faculty and chair. Proposals approved by the dean of the college in which the
proposing graduate program resides will be submitted in prioritized order to the Vice
Provost for Research and Graduate Studies. Awards must be approved by the Provost
upon the recommendation of the Vice Provost and college dean.
Proposals for this second round of Graduate Program Improvement and Innovation
Grants are due June 2, 2008. It is anticipated that awards will be announced by August 1,
2008 for initiatives to begin September 2008.
