Before Arriving on Campus

UD ID and PIN

Your UD ID and PIN are the key to getting access to many services at the University of Delaware such as academic records, grades, student account as well many educational resources from UD's web site.

Your UD ID is your student number indicated in your acceptance letter from the Office of Graduate and Professional Education (in most cases, 7xx-xx-xxxx). Once the Office of Graduate and Professional Education receives your Response Form, your PIN number will be sent via email. If you have not received your PIN, please call (302) 831-6824 or send an email to zielm@udel.edu.

Once you have been issued your PIN number, you may log into the student records system (UDSIS) to access your personal records.

***For International Students: PIN numbers are assigned upon your arrival. For more Information please visit the International Students section***

UD Cards

Students are required to carry the UD#1 Card at all times. It is the official identification card of the University of Delaware.

Some of the privileges that are provided with the UD#1 Card are:

  • UD1 FLEX account - A declining balance account that can be used in place of cash all around campus. Services such as dining meals and points, vending, laundry, and copiers can be accessed with UD1 FLEX.

    Some departments allow students to register for courses before arriving on campus. You may contact your department for additional information including class schedule.

    Online Registration is available through the Office of the Registrar. Find out more about available courses here.

    Tuition & Fees

    Standard tuition and fees, established by the Board of Trustees, apply equally to all students. Each student is responsible for understanding and complying with University policies and for paying established fees that are updated regularly in catalogs, fee payment materials, and on the University's Web Site.

    Tuition and fees can be paid online, by mail to the cashier's office or in person at the Student Services Building at Lovett Avenue, Newark, DE 19716.

    Student Services

    Personal Records

    UD graduate students can access their personal financial and academic records records via the web through UDSIS. You will need your UD ID to log in. You may access the UDSIS website by going to www.udel.edu. At the top right of the page, click on "My UD," then UDSIS-Students.

    Academic Services

    University of Delaware Library: The University of Delaware Library has a rich array of electronic and print resources. DELCAT accounts with the library enables the student to renew/request books online.

    Research Office: The Research Office serves as an advocate for persons in the University Community who are interested in identifying, applying for, receiving, and conducting research with support from government and non-government sponsors, and in assisting administrators with the stewardship of research funds and equipment.

    Bookstore

    UD has three bookstore locations on campus:

    • Perkins Student Center - 325 Academy Street
    • Trabant Student Center - 17 West Main Street
    • Rust Ice Arena - David M. Nelson Sports Complex

    Classroom books are located in the Perkins Student Center and merchandise and other items are sold at the Trabant and Rust Ice Arena locations. Use the UD Bookstore website to order textbooks online or reserve them for pick up.

    There are other bookstores off-campus located around Newark and Main Street.   Search under the Newark Community section.

    Housing

    On-campus housing package for Graduate Students: Housing Assignment Services at UD offers a complete package for Graduate Students and their families that simplifies the apartment shopping process and eliminates the hassles of settling in once you arrive on campus. Rent, utilities, and maintenance are combined making payments simple.

    Recreation

    Athletics and Recreation Services: The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Services provide opportunities for participation in athletics, recreational sports, and leisure activities through their programs, facilities and services. These opportunities are primarily focused on the diverse student population while also serving the University and surrounding communities. Some of the recreational facilities include:

    Many events are scheduled on campus by the Student Centers Programming Advisory Board (SCPAB), MBNA Career Services Center and other organizations. Among other events, movies are shown at the Trabant University Center for all students and faculty of the University.

    Career Services

    University of Delaware Bank of America Career Services Center: The Bank of America Career Services Center at UD provides career services for students, alumni, parents, and employers.

    eRecruiting Network: This online recruiting program provides a platform for students to maintain their profile and search for Jobs, Internships or Co-ops or to search for opportunities by employer.

    Financial Aid

    Graduate students are eligible for a variety of financial awards. Some awards are merit based such as teaching, research, graduate assistants or fellowships and others are need based such as loans.

    Graduate programs determine the recipients of merit awards whereas need based awards are determined through the Financial Aid Office. In addition, there are University-wide competitive awards offered through the Office of Graduate and Professional Education.

    Health Services

    Student Health Center: The Student Health Center (SHS), nationally accredited by AAAHC, provides medical services on a twenty four hour - seven day schedule for all students. Many prescription and over the counter medications are available in the SHS Dispensary.

    Emergency Care Unit: The University of Delaware Emergency Care Unit (UDECU) is an award winning, student-run volunteer organization, committed to excellence in its mission of providing professional emergency medical care to all persons on the University of Delaware campus.

    Center for Counseling and Student Development: Provides students with individual counseling and group counseling as well as many other services for individual assessment.

    Wellspring Health Education Program: A comprehensive health education program sponsored by the Center for Counseling and Student Development. Wellspring promotes students' behavioral and emotional wellness, and helps students evaluate options for maintaining healthy lifestyles, through prevention, intervention, support, and education.

    As a new student at UD, you will want to access your email and use the Internet as soon as possible. Before you can have access, you need to have a UDelNet ID, an ID card and be registered for classes.  Go to www.udel.edu/welcome to determine the date you will be able to activate your UDelNet (email) account. You will need your UD ID and PIN to activate your account.

    Your UDelNet account provides:

  • Free email
  • Internet access through UD, connecting to the Internet from your home
  • Create your own Web Page
  • Access to online course materials on MyCourses and Sakai
  • Access to restricted Library databases

    International Students

    Welcome New Foreign Students and Scholars!

    Congratulations on your admission to the University of Delaware. I am sure you have many questions about the United States and particularly about the University of Delaware and your anticipated program of study.

    CHECK-IN LIST FOR NEW INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE STUDENTS

    1. Please report to the Office of Foreign Student & Scholar (OFSS) office with your Passport, I-94 and all visa documentation immediately upon arrival in Newark.
    2. Please report to the Office of Graduate and Professional Education located at 234 Hullihen Hall in order to:
      • Set PIN #
      • Be activated for registration.
      • Obtain temporary Social Security Number (SSN).
        *Be sure to provide your Departmental secretary with this number.*
        Students may use the temporary SSN until a permanent number is obtained.
        The Office of Foreign Students and Scholars will arrange for a representative from the Social Security Office to visit the campus after Orientation to process your application for the permanent SSN.
    3. For your ID Card: Please go to the ID Office located in the Student Services Building (30 Lovett Ave) to get your University Photo ID

    New foreign students are required to attend an orientation program. Please visit the Office of Foreign Students & Scholars (OFSS) website to view pertinent information and important forms.

    Campus Services

    Safety

    UD's Department of Public Safety is committed to providing quality service and protection to the students, faculty, and staff of UD. It is dedicated to the safety and security of the community it serves.

    Escort Service
    Public Safety provides escort service on campus. The escort service is designed to enhance your safety and peace of mind if you must walk after dark. To arrange for an escort please call 831-2222 or use one of the over 200 blue light emergency phones located throughout campus.

    Parking

    Parking Services at UD are managed by the Department of Public Safety and are designed to provide students, faculty, staff, and visitors with adequate, accessible and well maintained parking facilities.

    The Parking Services office is open Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Parking Services is located in the Public Safety building at 413 Academy Street. The office is open for extended hours during registration periods. Visitor passes and alternate vehicle passes can be obtained 24 hours a day.

    Student parking permits can be processed at online at your convenience.

    Bicycle Registration

    Registering your bicycle with Public Safety is highly encouraged. Bicycle Identification Forms can be submitted online. Please call 831-2683 for more information.

    Shuttle Service

    Students can use the UD shuttle services, which is a free service to all UD students. The UD Shuttle route schedule handouts are available at the beginning of the Fall Semester at the Trabant University Center, Student Services Building, Perkins Student Center, Christiana Commons, Morris Library, Public Safety, and the Field House.

    Mail, Publication, Printing

    Campus Mail
    Provides the university community with the timely and accurate distribution and processing of all mail

    Publication Services
    The UD Publications Office helps students with communications projects, in print or on screen. They also provide consultation on desktop publishing, computer-assisted graphics and publishing on the World Wide Web.

    Delaware State ID

    You may want to acquire a Delaware State ID from the Delaware DMV. The fee for an identification card is $5.00, and it expires 4 years from the applicant's next birthday. The applicant must be a Delaware resident and present documents as required by the Required Documentation Table.
