Recommendations

You can choose to ask your recommenders to complete a paper recommendation form or you can choose to have your recommenders receive an email link to a customized online recommendation form. If your recommender has already prepared letters of recommendation, do not enter their e-mail addresses into your application. Entering e-mail addresses will initiate the online recommendation system. Only type your recommender’s e-mail addresses if they have agreed to submit their recommendations through our customized online system.

If you choose to utilize our online recommendation system:

Approximately 3-5 days after you submit your application, your recommenders will receive a link to a customized online recommendation form. The results will download into our system within 24 hours after their submission.

The reason most recommenders do not receive their link is because the applicant did not speak with the recommender about their preferred e-mail address. Therefore, we strongly suggest taking a few moments to gather the correct information before submitting your application.

If your recommender has not received the email, there may be a couple of possibilities:

  1. The email to the recommenders is sent after your online application is processed. This may take up to 3-5 business days after you have submitted your application.

  2. If you are certain that the email that you provided in your application is accurate, then you should contact your recommender and ask that they check their spam inbox. The subject line of our email is: "Your recommendation is requested for a UD graduate program applicant". If they do not find the email anywhere in their mailbox, please send an email with your full name, ID#, recommender's name, and recommender's email address to gradadmissions@udel.edu to request that the email with the recommendation link be resent to the recommender.

  3. It is possible that the email to your recommender was returned as undeliverable. Please check that you provided the correct email address for each recommender. If a different email address should be used, please send an email with your name, UD ID#, the name of the recommender, the incorrect email address, and the corrected email address to gradadmissions@udel.edu.

We encourage you to give your recommenders at least two weeks to complete the form on your behalf. In addition, we send weekly reminders to your recommenders until they have completed their online form.
