Students are
chosen for one of two Governor's School programs: academic, or visual
and performing arts.
-
Academic
students spend the first days of Governor’s School focusing
on the humanities, with students selecting workshops such as:
Censorship in Rock Lyrics; First Amendment Rights,
and The Movie Made Me Do It.
-
Visual and
performing arts students participate in intensive study in their
specific fields and take at least one field trip. The music
students usually go to the Mann Music Center to watch a rehearsal
and talk with the musicians there. The art students usually
go to Longwood Gardens and the Brandywine Zoo in search of subjects,
and the theater students go to New York City to watch a Broadway
production and go backstage to talk with graduates of the University
of Delaware’s professional theater training program.
-
Students
will spend the week in the new George Read dormitory complex
of the University of Delaware.
