Travel Awards

Fulbright Scholars

The competitive International Travel Award Program provides assistance to full-time faculty up to $750 per academic year toward participation in an international conference outside the United States within the participant's professional field.

Once you've finished reading all of the information provided here, please complete the ITA On-Line Application. Applicants must apply for funding by the 4:30 PM on the deadline date prior to travel. Retroactive applications will not be accepted. Please make sure that, in addition to the online application, you forward (1) a recommendation and signature of your department Chair or Director, and (2) an official invitation or notification of participation from the conference as one PDF file to mjrobins@udel.edu by the deadline date prior to travel.

ITA Procedures and Guidelines

A COMPLETE SUBMISSION INCLUDES

(1) FILLING OUT THE ONLINE APPLICATION

ITA On-Line Application

(2) EMAIL A PDF OF THE OFFICIAL CONFERENCE PARTICIPATION NOTICE AND A RECOMMENDATION LETTER FROM YOUR DEPARTMENT CHAIR TO mjrobins@udel.edu:

 

1) The official conference participation notice

2) A recommendation letter from your department Chair or Director.

Applications missing any of these elements will be not be reviewed. Faculty may only receive one travel award per academic year.

To receive funding under this competitive program, applicants must participate officially in the conference they attend, and the conference must take place outside the continental United States. Official participation is defined as:

  • presenting a paper
  • serving as a discussant
  • participating on a panel

Your application must document these activities specifically with an invitation from the conference organizer or sponsoring organization.

PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO PROPROSALS WHICH:
  • document commitment of funding from other institutional sources
  • demonstrate a significant impact on the research and academic career of the applicant -- particularly from those with little or no international experience
  • individuals that have not received an ITA award in the past three years

""ITA DEADLINES

    Deadlines for the academic year are as follows:

  • Last Friday of September (for travel between 10/1 - 1/30)
  • Last Friday of January (for travel between 2/1 - 5/29)
  • Last Friday of May (for travel between 6/1 - 9/29)

    Applications must be complete (including all separately sent electronic files) All files must be received by our office no later than 4:30 P.M. on the deadline dates. Applicants must apply for funding by a deadline date prior to travel; late applications will not be reviewed and will not receive funding.


    Applicants and their departments will be notified of their acceptance or rejection via email within three weeks of the deadlines listed above. Please do not contact our office to check on your status.

""REIMBURSEMENT PROCEDURES

  • In order to be reimbursed for your travel expenses, once you have received the award and attended your conference, you must submit a brief narrative report of your activities, meetings, and tangible results of your travels to our office within 30 days of your return.
  • ITA recipients will be reimbursed for their travel expenses directly by their department and no longer need to submit their Business Expense Report to the Institute for Global Studies. Upon receipt and review of the faculty travel report by the Center's Director of Special Projects, the ITA funds will be electronically transferred into a departmental supplemental funds account. The department Chair, secretary and the faculty member will be notified of the transfer via e-mail.
  • Submit one copy of publications, if any, that result from your International Travel Award.
