Faculty International
Research Awards

Deadline: 4:30 p.m. February 28

The Institute for Global Studies (IGS) invites applications from full-time faculty for the International Research Award (IRA) program.

The IRA program is intended to support international research by UD full-time faculty, and to serve as seed money for substantive research undertakings that will lead to applications for larger, externally funded support. Applications that enhance or support new collaborate research activities with UD's partner institutions outside the United States will be strongly considered. The amount of each award will depend on the scope of the project but can be up to a maximum of $10,000 in IRA funds.

Submission Requirements

Proposals must include:

COMPLETION OF AN ONLINE APPLICATION, INCLUDING:
  1. A two-page narrative explaining the significance of the project, its potential contributions to the field and prospects for subsequent funding from external sources, with examples of those sources.
  2. A budget page and justification for the various line items. The budget should contain enough detail to convince the review committee that the expenditures are justified; a separate justification page should be added if necessary. Faculty may not use the IRA for summer salary support or travel expenses for attending conferences.
  3. A description of plans to continue the project beyond the development or pilot phase.
  4. A letter of support from the department chair or unit administrator.
  5. A short curriculum vitae of the principal investigator(s).

To be considered, all proposals must have some matching contribution, either in actual funds or in-kind, from the Department, College, or relevant unit.

Application

The package should be emailed as one complete (items 1 through 5), scanned PDF document to Matthew Robinson.

""CONDITIONS FOR
FUNDED PROPOSALS

  • All funds awarded must be spent between July 1 and June 30
  • Recipients must submit a final report within six weeks of the completion of research. The report will clearly document the results of the project and also indicate plans for follow-on research as well as applications for external support.
  • Recipients may also be asked to participate in relevant forums and events on campus.

  • NOTE: When applying, you will need a two page narrative explaining the significance of the project and potential contributions. Proposals must be designed to support research on the complex historical, political, cultural, economic, resource, and security dynamics involved in the relationships of the United States with the larger global community. We recommend that you prepare that portion of the narrative before proceeding, so you can cut and paste it into the online form.

Questions regarding this grant program should be directed via email to Matthew Robinson.
