Gifts in Action
Gala

A Note of Thanks

In October, over 600 students gathered at Trabant University Center during the University’s annual Gratitude Gala to express their appreciation to the University’s donors. Students were given the chance to learn about the scholarship they received and the donors behind the fund. They also had the opportunity to show their gratitude by hand-writing a personal thank you note. The event is a great educational opportunity for students to realize the direct impact that donors can have on their UD experience. Our donors look forward to hearing from students and appreciate the personal touch.

Tiffany

Student Spotlight: Tiffany Reams, '14

Tiffany Reams is a psychology major with an education minor from Marblehead, MA. “Once I came to campus and met with some people, I knew that this was the perfect college for me,” says Tiffany, a senior who will graduate in May. Still, Tiffany found it difficult to afford UD. “I had been paying for college without any help from family,” Tiffany stated, noting that she works as a nanny to cover expenses. Her financial situation was improved when she was awarded the Class of 1957 Scholarship, which was funded by the collective generosity of members of the class. “It has been hard, but this award helps in a huge way”. After graduation, Tiffany plans to attend graduate school for psychology.

ISE Lab

ISE Lab Grand Opening

The Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Laboratory (ISE Lab) celebrated its grand opening on October 17, providing donors and the UD community a chance to tour the new building. The 194,000-square-foot facility, which includes the Bob and Jane Gore Research Laboratories and the DuPont Learning Laboratories, provides space for collaborative research and problem-based learning experiences for faculty and students across a range of academic disciplines. During the opening ceremony, President Harker spoke of how the future is focused on students experiencing education in action. “This building is an investment in them, in you, in this incredible community of people, everyone here right now and many more who aren’t, who’ve signed on to change the world with us,” Harker said as he thanked all of the donors who brought the building to life.

UDance

UD Students Make a Difference

UDance, hosted at the University of Delaware, is a 12-hour philanthropic dance marathon that unifies the campus community and raises awareness about pediatric cancer. It's the University's largest student-run philanthropy program and has raised over $1.4 million in seven years of existence. This past year alone, UDance surpassed half a million dollars, raising over $550,000. These donations have benefited The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation, which supports medical research for families of critically ill children across the country.
