"Tandem" Vertical MB Crossed Beam Instrument"
Mass Spectrometry Divission at the University of Delaware
Operational principle of this machine is essentially simillar to
that of the "Classical" Crossed Beam
Instrument.
Implementation of commercial VG-70/70E Mass
Spectrometer increased the intensity of the Ion beam
over the later instrument. Original engeneering
decission to cross the beams in a vertical plane,
while keeping the detector travel in the
horizontal plane allowed for effective solutions of a background
pressure problem. These two factors effectively increased the
sensativity of the Experiment.
