Creating Assignments in Sakai
If you think about it, there are two basic kinds of assignments that an instructor makes during a course. First, there are assignments that the students hand in. You tell the students what you want them to create, and they need to hand it in by a specific date, or by the end of the course. I refer to these kinds of assignments as submit assignments.
The second kind of assignment is observational. You require that students must do something during the course, but the students do not hand in anything specific. Instead of grading a specific submission, you observe the students' behavior, such as their class participation, and you grade the student based on this observation. Therefore, I refer to these kinds of assignments as observational assignments.

After studying the help I wondered, how best to create an assignment, from the assignments tool, or from the gradebook?
"To check your grade on an assignment, follow these steps: In the menubar, click Assignments. When the Assignments page appears, you'll see the title of your assignment and information about its status. Click the title of the assignment for more details. You'll see when your assignment was graded as well as the original instructions. Your instructor may have added comments to the text that you submitted. If your instructor left additional comments, they will be at the bottom of the page. You may need to scroll down to see them." Is there a way for the students to quickly see the status of their grades on all the assignments? Or must they manually do this for each assignment in order to see their grades?
So I log on as a student and submit an assignment. Now the assignment screen tells me "Select an assignment to view details, start working or edit your previous work." There is no option, however, to edit it any further after you have submitted it. I believe the instruction should go on to say "if you have not yet submitted it."
