Module 11: Technology Planning
Technology planning is a complex process that requires collaboration and cooperation across a broad range of technology issues and stakeholders. To develop an effective education technology plan, you must:
- Identify software that supports and enhances the learning objectives of the school or workplace. (ISTE TF-VII-B-1)
- Discover, discuss, and apply applicable organizational guidelines for budget planning and management procedures. (ISTE TF-VII-B-2)
- Discuss and apply procedures related to troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on technology infrastructure. (ISTE TF-VII-B-3)
- Apply current information involving facilities planning issues and computer related technologies. (ISTE TF-VII-B-4)
- Suggest policies and procedures concerning staging, scheduling, and security for managing computers/technology in a variety of school/laboratory/classroom settings. (ISTE TF-VII-B-5)
- Use distance and online learning facilities. (ISTE TF-VII-B-6)
- Describe and identify recommended specifications for purchasing technology systems in school or workplace settings. (ISTE TF-VII-B-7)
Collaboration
You can use communications technology to help collaborate in technology plannning. Notice, for example, the collaborative methods the U.S. Department of Education used to sollicit input into the National Education Technology Plan.
