Graduate Programs, Foreign Languages and Literatures
University of Delaware

Most of our students enter the work force upon graduation. Many get teaching positions in public and private high schools. Others get jobs outside of academe, with international companies, law firms, etc. One recent graduate is using her foreign language skills by working for a company that specializes in bringing critically ill Americans home from abroad. Another of our former M.A. students obtained work with an international travel agency and was promptly sent to Paris.

Many of our students continue their studies for the PhD. Our students have gone on to doctoral programs at Ohio State University, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Maryland, Catholic University of America, the University of North Carolina, the University of Virginia, Duke University, Vanderbilt University, Johns Hopkins University, Pennsylvania State University, the University of Colorado, the University of Toronto, and the graduate center at City Univeristy of New York (CUNY), among others. Several of our students have pursued their studies in other fields of endeavor, fields in which a knowledge of a foreign language is a strong asset. A recent graduate completed studies in the Elliot School of International Affairs at the George Washington University. Another has entered the University of London's program in International Law. Many students who earned their M.A. degree at the University of Delaware are now teaching at the university level: the University of Iowa, Bucknell University, the University of Southern Mississippi, and the University of Delaware are among the many universities that currently have graduates of our programs on their staff.
