My name is Jay Nichols. This is my second year as a Graduate Student and Teaching Assistant in the French Department. I graduated from M.I.T. with a B.S.E.E. in 1970 and worked for Digital Equipment Corporation and Compaq, first as an Engineer and then as an Engineering Manager. Some of the projects that I worked on included the MicroPDP-11/23 and 73/83/84 and then the MicroVAX II. I managed the MicroVAX and VAX Engineering Groups before becoming Americas and World Wide Engineering Manager for the Custom Systems and Solutions Group, with Engineering Groups in Annecy, France and Munich, Germany. During this period, I worked extensively with Alcatel, a French and German Telephone Equipment Provider. In preparation for this job, I studied French extensively during the 1980’s and German during the first half of the 1990’s. Throughout that period, I took yearly 3-5 week language study vacations to Paris and to various regions of France and Germany. Please see my Personal Web Page http://www.udel.edu/fllt/grads/nicholsj/passions.html for more information about my interests.
