                            cultural adaptation work with foreign professionals working in the U.S.

                            teaching with faculty and staff for elementary and intermediate French courses (4 semesters). Skills

                            helping faculty and students with the use of computer technology.

                            Independently taught courses for both the Dept. of English and for the medical school at the local teaching
                            hospital.  Further developed above skills, especially individual accountability. Also gained
                            valuable experience regarding cultural differences in education and in the workplace, the process involved 
                            in moving abroad, and how to adapt to new cultural environments.

                            French Teacher: Bayard Elementary School, Wilmington, DE. (June / July 2001)
                            Taught a six-week summer immersion foreign language camp sponsored by the state of DE and funded 
                            by a federal grant. Extensive lesson planning, curriculum organization and development of pedagogical 
                            materials for the elementary language learner. Submission of materials to DE Dept. of Education for use in 
                            national conference on foreign language education.

TEACHING
EXPERIENCE 
                       French Teaching Assistant: The University of Delaware, Newark, DE  (2000/01, 2002/03).
                         Currently team teaching with UD faculty in intermediate French courses; 4 semesters. Responsibilities 
                         include preparing daily lesson plans from a team-created syllabus, preparing and scoring assessment 
                         measures of all types: oral, written, discrete point, and holistic, supplementing textbook resources, evaluating 
                         the course and making improvements to the syllabus. 2000/01, worked in the Foreign Language Media 
                         Center helping faculty and students with educational technology.

                         English as a Foreign Language Teacher: The University of Caen, France. (2001/02)
                         Taught English as a foreign language for both the Dept. of English and for the university’s medical school; 
                         solely responsible for all aspects of courses taught. These included Oral Expression in English for first-year 
                         English majors and English for third-year medical students. Gained valuable insight into targeting a 
                         specific: language skill: oral production, teaching a foreign language through content material: using 
                         medically-related articles, advertisements, videos, and scenarios, and teaching language for a specific 
                         language need: medical assessment and treatment.

                         French Teacher: Bayard Elementary School, Wilmington, DE. (Summer 2001)
                         Taught a six-week summer foreign language immersion camp sponsored by the DE DOE and funded by a 
                         federal grant. Extensive curriculum development and organization, lesson planning, and development of 
                         pedagogical materials specifically targeted to the elementary-aged language learner. Submission of materials 
                         to DE Dept. of Education for use in national conference on foreign language education and grant renewal.

                      FLES Student Teacher: Townsend Elementary School, Appoquinimink School District, Townsend, DE. 
                        (March – May 2000). Taught French in a pilot program for first-graders. Participated in curriculum and 
                        materials development as well as student assessment. Submitted lesson plans and observations to UD 
                        faculty who presented the program at a national conference.

                       Secondary Ed. Student Teacher: Cab Calloway School for the Arts, Red Clay School District, 
                         Wilmington, DE. (January – March 2000). Taught French I, II, III, IV courses in a magnet school for the 
                          performing and creative arts. My team teacher was hired to revamp the school’s fledgling French program, 
                          therefore my experience included extensive curriculum planning, entrance and exit skills assessment, and 
                          remedial instruction in addition to the daily duties of a teacher.. 

PROFESSIONAL 
DEVELOPMENT

    •Currently developing a placement exam for incoming French students at The 
      University of Delaware as an independent study project sponsored by the French and 
      Foreign Language Pedagogy faculty and mentored by the sequence supervisor of UD’s 
      beginner and intermediate French programs. 
                        •Completed a Multimedia Literacy course for educators during my M.A studies. Created a 
                          Multimedia presentation promoting study abroad programs and wrote a research paper on the 
                          rights of professional educators to use Internet resources. Both projects are on the Internet and 
                          linked to this website.

                       •Wrote follow-up evaluations of pilot programs for elementary-aged foreign language learners.

                       •Attended workshops at the Northeast Conference for Foreign Language Teachers, April 2000

                       •Interned and then worked seasonally for Inlingua, a language training and translation firm with 
                        offices in DE and PA. Duties included teaching ESL and proofreading English/French 
                        translations, and culminated in the creation of a PowerPoint presentation on the need for and the 
                        potential benefits of FLES programs in the U.S.
