Students of Spanish have three study
abroad options:
Costa Rica, México, and
Spain
Costa
Rica
A few highlights of the program:
-
students live in the homes of host
families. The incredibly warm and friendly people (known as "ticos")
help our students adjust to living abroad. Meet Marcos
Soto, for example; a Master Guide with Costa
Rica Expeditions, he spends his time educating visitors
about his country and making sure they feel at home. One of Marcos'
most special talents is his ability to serenade you with Beatles tunes
while hiking through a rain forest.
-
students take classes at the Universidad
de Costa Rica - one of the most impressive Central American Universities.
-
students travel throughout the country
to see the breathtaking beauty of this land. Thanks to the successful
efforts of the Costa Ricans to maintain this beauty, our students see nature
as it was intended to be seen. The Natural Parks and Reserves,
which comprise 12.2% of the entire national territory, protect the
best of the country's natural and cultural heritage. Our excursions
include: el Volcán Poás, el Volcán Irazú,
el Volcán Arenal and the Tabacón Hot Springs, el Parque Nacional
de Braulio Carrillo, la Playa Tamarindo, and la Playa Punta
Cocles.
-
students have one free weekend, during
which they venture out on their own to explore the country. I highly
recommend this Monteverde
resort. For
the adventurous traveler, here's the link to my
favorite place in the world. Greet
Cookie, the Jamaican chef, nicely, and he'll cook you the best Mahimahi
you've ever tasted.
-
students return to Delaware with much
more than just a stamp in their passports. . . read
a few of their stories and you'll see what I mean.
Spain
A few highlights of the program:
-
students begin their trip in Madrid,
the capital of Spain. We lodge in a hotel situated right in the heart
of the city; and make excursions to el Escorial (a palace of the
King and Queen), el Prado (one of the world's largest museums), and
the nearby cities of Toledo and Segovia.
-
students then fly south to Granada,
the capital city of Andalucía, where they live with host families.
The people in Granada are open and friendly; students quickly adjust
to European life.
-
students take classes at the Universidad
de Granada.
-
students travel to many cities and
places, such as Sevilla, Córdoba,
Nerja, Salobreña & Almuñecar (the Costa del Sol),
and the Alpujarras; the Alhambra and Generalife, Sacromonte,
Fuentevaqueros and the Sierra Nevada.
-
students return to Delaware with much
more than just a stamp in their passports. . .
read these stories and you'll see what I mean.
