|
Preparación/Tarea If you do all of the assigned
exercises (in the textbook, “SAM”, online and handouts, etc.), you will
receive a 100 for your homework grade.
For every incomplete exercise noticed, or for every exercise reflecting
minimal effort or very poor work, your homework grade will be negatively affected
by 1%. Your professor will also deduct points for not bringing your book(s)
to class. Some homework may be peer-checked. Homework
Tips: There is an answer key in the back of the “SAM”. Your
professor will look for evidence of self-correction. Some days you will be
required to watch an episode of the “Facetas” comedy that came with your
textbook. You can also watch these episodes online by visiting our course
homepage and clicking on the Facetas Supersite link. To reward those keeping
up with their homework, some exam questions may be taken directly from
homework assignments in the workbook (SAM), textbook or online activities. |

3 Composiciones (10% each) Professor and peer
feedback will be given on your first two compositions. You will turn in an
outline, earlier draft(s) and a final draft of each composition for a grade. Some
feedback will be given on your third composition, but you will only be
turning in one final draft. To see the grading rubric and a sample formatted
composition visit the course homepage. For a guide to the correction symbols,
see the last page of this syllabus. You can make an appointment at the

III. COMPOSITION
FORMATTING Proper formatting is part of your composition grade.
For technical help & computer access go to: Foreign
Language Media Center Jastak-Burgess Hall #006 (302) 831-6551. IV. PROYECTO DE
HONORES (15%
*Ideas: Interview a
Spanish-speaking member of the UD community, the local community or from your
home community. Your project should
not just be a basic biography, but rather a thorough pre-interview background
investigation and one or more interviews in Spanish about something specific
(his or her area of expertise, some very specific aspect of his or her
homeland or favorite country of travel, impressions of immigration or study
abroad in America, implications of bi-cultural identification, etc.). There is also a community service report
possibility listed below. You are
welcome to propose your own idea, as well.
The burden of finding something specific about which to focus is on
you and may take some effort, but making this meaningful connection in the
target language will be a most valuable experience. An Hispanic undergraduate
or graduate student studying at UD. Spanish Professors,
Instructors, and Graduate Students of Spanish http://www.fllt.udel.edu/people.html
(Note that there are also
Spanish-speaking professors and graduate students in other departments.) Interview a Spanish
speaking Study Abroad program director about a Study Abroad program in a
Spanish speaking country (choose a winter or summer session program only): http://international.udel.edu/studyabroad/programs/search3.asp?Type=FLL Meet on or off campus over
coffee with a Spanish speaking UD student in the ELI Language Partner
program. Request a Spanish speaking partner and simply be honest about how
much time you have to commit (one, two, three or more informal meetings).
Contact Aida: elilanguagepartner@yahoo.com , Language Partners
831-2674. Students in the past have
mentioned it can require repeated requests and assertiveness, but is well
worth the effort to find a reliable ELI partner. Alternate idea: Hispanic Community service and report on
your experience. Conduct your own research, but here are a couple of links.
Latin American Community Center, Inc. V. YOUR
RESPONSIBILITIES
No cell phones in class,
please. Attendance and punctuality Up to three absences = no penalty, as long as there are
no graded assignments on those days. Be aware that your composition grade
includes “use of class time” on preparation/editing days (see rubric on
course webpage), which cannot be made up. More than three absences = final grade affected negatively by one
percent (1% ) for each additional unexcused absence. Make up exams will not be given without documentation.
Please arrive on time. Three lates = one absence. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
If you need to miss a
class Exchange information with a classmate now. When he/she
is absent, please request any handouts/and take careful notes for him/her.
He/she should do the same for you. You are responsible for finding out what
you missed, and for making it up. Take a moment to meet someone now:
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Academic Honesty: How to
find acceptable help and resources Do not seek help from anyone other than your SPAN200
professor, an approved UD tutor, your
peer editor, or a graduate student working for the Foreign Languages Writing
Assistance Program. You may request a tutor by contacting Dr. Busch at leipzig@udel.edu or you can
make an appointment at the FLWC for free help with your writing, specifically,
at http://www.udel.edu/fllt/flwc/. Do not use translation software of any
kind. Do not use part or all of a document that you or anyone else has
written for another class or for any other purpose. If you consult outside
sources, cite them. By staying in this class, you are indicating that you
have read and agree to this policy. |
