SLHC/Hendrix                                                       ARP:  Questions to get you started.

Before you develop, implement, observe and reflect upon your plan for improvement, you will need to describe the problem, design a questionnaire to elicit self-perceived needs from target audience, and consider certain factors as you develop research questions.

.) What is/are the “problem(s)” you would like to improve upon?

.) Who is your target audience? (parents, ESL students, school-wide student body, etc.)

.) What questions could you ask your target audience to elicit their perception of the problem?  Brainstorm.  (For example, Are you satisfied with they way… What would you like to see… etc.)

.) Will you need help translating the questionnaire to Spanish (and English..offer both if applicable, English on one side and Spanish on the other)?  If no, go to question # 7.

.) Whom will you ask for help?  (Recommended: one native speaker, Crista and Stacey.)

.) Can you revise your questions to be yes/no, circle a number, multiple choice, true/false, etc. so that you are able to comprehend and analyze the results independently?  Try a few.

.) Hypothesize the outcome of your and their perception of the problem.  What do you think the overarching goal that can beging to “solve” the problem will be?

.) Brainstorm. List ways that may solve this problem.  Don’t worry about being “realistic” yet.

.) Are there any that can be included in your classroom/curriculum (i.e., contribute to things you are already doing?)  Are there any that are just too “out there,” “huge” or impossible to implement and measure with the time frame and your limited language abilities?  Simplify, select, revise your list above.

.) Select three of four of your best ideas from questions # 8 and 9 and decide how the success of these can be measured and analyzed.

.) Considering most of the “action” will take place in Sept-Nov., develop a reasonable timeline for measuring your progree/success in increments/phases. What do you hope to accomplish by the end of September, October, November?
