Classes will be held at the
Facultad de Artes y Ciencias building (The College of Arts and Sciences
Building) in the campus
of the University of Costa Rica
in the suburb of San
Pedro on the east end of town. It has a student population of
30,000 but the campus is quite compact, as a matter of fact, it is enclosed--that
is, its perimeter is fenced in so that the campus can be "closed" at night.
Classes are not
in session for most of January so the campus will not be crowded nor will
dining facilities be open. Nevertheless, there are plenty of restaurants
around the university grounds, especially on the southern end, by the Monge
Library, where we will gather to board the bus for our expeditions.
Classes will begin at 8:00 (Span 107) and 9:00 (Span 206). Don't
worry! By 8:00 a.m. the sun will have been shining for 2 hours!!!
Not far from the library is Bésame Mucho, one of the favorite eating
establishments of the January 1998 program participants.
