Museo Nacional
The Museo Nacional used to be the Bellavista Fortress, a military barracks and headquarters.  We will go past it on our return to the UCR from many of our trips.  You can see the ramparts of this yellow fortress as the bus goes eastward on Avenida Uno, and as we pass it, you can see the holes made on the outside walls by bullets fired during the 40-day civil war of 1948.  The museum is relatively small but it artfully displays artifacts from pre-columbian times to the present, including huge stone spheres (no one knows yet what their purpose was), gold jewelry, religious objects, Spanish furniture and a very long stock.

As you can see, the 01W group enjoyed their visit, no doubt because it included the lecture on Costa Rican history given by our ever-cheerful and most illustrous guide and friend: Memo (Guillermo Canessa).
