This three phase project will enable you to reflect upon the discipline models you have studied; choose a model or a combination of models which best suit your personality and your philosophy of teaching; define what you deem to be problematic classroom behavior and design a discipline plan you intend to implement during your student teaching.
I.Phase
I – Theoretical Models:
Choose
a model or elements from the various models you have studied. Summarize
the main points and elaborate by explaining the reasons for your choice.
(One
double-spaced and typed page)
II.Phase
II – Classroom Environment:
A.Make
a list of all the classroom behaviors that you consider problematic. These
may be behaviors you have observed in your clinicals or experiences you
recall from your days as a student.
B.Review
the list you have compiled and select a maximum of four behaviors you consider
the most problematic. For example, actions, which interfere with safety
or learning.
C.Explain
why you consider the behaviors you have chosen as being the most serious.
(One
double-spaced typed page)
III.Phase
III – Practical Application:
Taking
into account the theoretical models (Phase I) and your personal view of
undesirable behavior (Phase II), develop a plan, which could be displayed
in a classroom in poster form. This plan should be composed of a maximum
of four points. Be prepared to explain your plan to your classmates.
N.B.
1.Be
realistic – Can the students meet your expectations?
2.Be
practical – Will you be able to reinforce consistently?
3.Be
fair – Does the punishment match the crime?
4.Be
positive – Encourage, do not discourage!
Focus on the
Big Picture!
