Exercising in the Cold

Is it OK to exercise in the Cold?? The answer is YES as long as you're dressed and trained for it. Keeping your head and hands warm are critical. You want to use a breathable material because any added moisture will make it more difficult to stay warm; especially if you were to stop and take a break during your exercise. Just like any other exercising you need to work up to increasing intensities, and durations. The good news is that your body will quickly acclimate to the environment. After just two weeks most people will be able to train in any type of weather without any complications.

Remember just because you don't feel like you're sweating as much as the warmer months you still need to be sure and replace fluids. When the environmental air is dry and cold your body adds moisture to it and subsequently this water vapor gets expired during ventilation. The general rule for proper hydration is to drink until you feel satisfied and then drink a little more. Your urine should remain light or clear in color. And, always be sure to rehydrate if water was not available during your training session.
