Push-up Test
This test of muscular endurance assesses the upper body and the procedure differs slightly for males and females.
Procedures for the test are:
Males
- Subject Assumes push-up position: Body rigid and straight, supported on toes with hands shoulder-width apart and straight.
- The subject must lower himself until his chest touches a rolled towel placed underneath him.
- The back must remain straight and rigid throughout the movement.
- If rest is taken it must be in the up position.
- The score is the total number of correctly executed push-ups until exhaustion.
Females
- The subject assumes the push-up position from the knees. Body, rigid and straight, supported by knees and hands which are place shoulder-width apart.
- The subject must lower herself until the chest touches a rolled towel placed underneath her.
- The back must remain straight and rigid throughout the movement.
- If rest is taken it must be in the up position.
- The score is the total number of correctly executed push-ups until exhaustion.
Results: Compare to peer group using norm table.
